Additive Manufacturing of Metallic Materials
Additive manufacturing (AM) is widely recognized as a revolutionary technology. Over the past decade, metal AM techniques have garnered significant attention in both industry and academia. The primary metal AM methods include Powder Bed Fusion – Laser Beam (PBF-LB), Powder Bed Fusion – Electron Beam (PBF-EB), Directed Energy Deposition (DED), and Binder Jetting (BJT), while new methods and hybrid processes evolve. Metal AM enables the creation of parts with unique shapes and exceptional mechanical properties.
Description, Topics & Organizers
In the last decade, the industrial application of these technologies has surged, demonstrating immense potential across various sectors such as aerospace, medical/dental, and automotive. Due to the temperature gradients, high cooling rates, inherent process complexity, and numerous interlinked process parameters, the microstructure and mechanical properties of metal AM components differ significantly from those produced by conventional methods. Exploiting these advantages opens new possibilities in material synthesis with tailored properties. This symposium aims to address all aspects of metal additive manufacturing, from powder production and material development to the latest advances in processing, final part qualification, and characterization through process optimization.
Production and characterization of powders for AM to ensure quality parts Creation of new materials to improve AM part properties Link AM process settings to part properties for optimization Setting of standards to ensure consistent and reliable AM parts New designs and technologies enhancing AM capabilities Improve surface integrity through post-processing Use of design rules and optimization for better AM parts Prediction and optimization of AM processes and part performance Enhance AM parts with surface engineering, heat treatment, and machining Machine Learning in AM to optimize processes, predict outcomes, and improve quality control NDT and Process Monitoring to ensure quality and reliability of AM parts Life Cycle Assessment and Sustainability for eco-friendly manufacturing

Additive Manufacturing of Non-Metallic Materials
This symposium aims at providing a forum for researchers, students, industry representatives and institutions worldwide to address the most recent advances in the science and technology of additive manufacturing (AM) of non-metallic materials, including ceramics, cements, polymers, carbon-based materials, and composites. The symposium covers all stages of additive manufacturing, including the development and characterization of novel feedstocks, the optimization of printing parameters, the development of innovative AM processes, the control of post-processing such as debinding and sintering for improved surface finish and final microstructures; moreover, it includes evaluation of the influence of feedstock characteristics and printing parameters on the microstructure and properties, and the behavioral properties of materials shaped by additive manufacturing, such as thermo-mechanical, electrical, optical, etc.; finally, it covers the incorporation of digital modeling, simulations, and AI/machine learning algorithm into all stages of the AM workflow.
Description, Topics & Organizers
Additive manufacturing (AM) is a set of techniques that have revolutionized the design and production in a broad variety of disciplines and technologies. Unlike subtractive manufacturing, AM builds up complex parts layer by layer from digital designs. The development of AM allows us the design of geometric shapes that could not be produced before with unprecedented efficiency and precision, enabling material customization and on-demand manufacture. The families of AM techniques are VAT photopolymerization, material extrusion, material jetting, binder jetting, powder bed fusion, and sheet lamination. The development of new formulations, the precise control of the additives, the design of hybrid and multi-material processes, the microstructural control and the defect-free upscale production are still challenging and require much work to achieve fabrication competitiveness. The objectives of this symposium are to bring together all actors involved in the research and production of non-metallic materials by AM routes, including researchers with different backgrounds, engineers, industrial experts, students, etc. All of them are strongly encouraged to present their latest advancements in the field of AM and explore the fascinating trends, milestones and opportunities in the manufacturing of non-metallic materials.
